What is the Gospel?

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the good news that Jesus Christ saves sinners! The Gospel is true, it does not change, and it is still the power of God to us who are being saved (1 Cor. 1:18). This is why the message of the Gospel is so good that it never gets too old to retell it again. This good news has been the central message of the Church for almost 2,000 years. Today, people are being saved by the message of Jesus Christ crucified and risen from the dead. The Gospel answers the most important questions that any person could consider.

Who is God, and what is He like?

God is the Creator of the entire universe. Although God is One, He exists eternally as three Persons in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Within the unity and harmony of the three Persons of God is perfect love, joy, peace, wisdom, beauty, power, holiness, and justice, so that God alone is worthy of all glory and praise. God makes Himself known through all that He has created, and through His Word, the Bible.

Who is mankind, why do we exist, and what is our greatest need?

Mankind is wholly accountable to the Creator, God. In the beginning God made both man and woman in His image, to witness and reflect His glory and rule, and to worship Him by living according to His character and law. Sadly, instead of worshipping God and living in joyful obedience to Him, we rebelled. Sin came into the world through the disobedience of the first man, Adam. The effects of this sin resulted in our hatred toward God, usually seen in our lives by a lack of desire to please God or live for Him. No longer bearing His image rightly, all people are warped and under the power of the devil who deceived us. We are under God’s just wrath, and we cannot return to a right relationship with God on our own. We need a Deliverer to rescue us from the domain of the darkness. We need a Savior to pay the penalty of our sin against God. We need the Perfect Image of God to restore us to His likeness again.

Who is Jesus and what did He accomplish?

Jesus Christ is the only deliverer and savior, the perfect image of God. Jesus is the Son of God, the One promised by God to come into the world to save sinners from the domain of darkness. He was willingly sent by the Father to rescue many sinners from eternal punishment by God. As God’s perfectly righteous Son, Jesus suffered, bled, and died on the cross in the place of sinners to appease the righteous wrath of God, by paying the penalty for our sins with His own life. He accomplished the plan of God to defeat sin. He proved this by destroying sin’s power and penalty: death. Jesus gloriously arose from the dead three days later, proving that the devil, sin, and death were conquered! Jesus alone is able to save sinners. He is the only mediator between God and mankind, Himself being fully God and fully man. He is now in Heaven, and God has fixed a day when Jesus will return again to judge the whole world.

What is my response to this message of the Gospel?

As you read this, we pray that you know in your conscience that you are created by God and accountable to Him. We trust that the Holy Spirit of God is bringing a conviction to you that you cannot have true peace apart from admitting your sin, turning away from serving yourself, and embracing Jesus Christ as your risen Savior and reigning King. Jesus is the only way to be saved from eternal punishment in the fire of hell. Jesus is the only way to be returned to a beautiful and joyful relationship with God. If you know you are a sinner, believe in your heart that Jesus was raised from the dead, and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, you will be saved. This is the Good News, the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
